5) USAlliance Federal Credit Union
What is a credit union? They take deposits. They loan money. A credit union must be a bank, right? Credit unions are different. Credit unions are financial cooperatives - not-for-profit financial institutions owned and operated by individuals (called members) who share a common affiliation such as an employer or place of residence. Unlike banks, whose profits are returned to stockholders (who, in turn, may or may not be customers of the bank) as dividends, a credit union's profits are returned to its members in the form of higher savings and lower lending rates.
6) Teacher Discounts: Check Us Out!
We all agree that improving how we educate our next generation is the factor in continuing to effectively compete in a global economy. Teachers and other educators are on the front lines but local budget cuts conspire with their generosity to cause them to make an estimated $1.3B in out-of-pocket expenses each year to supply their classrooms. BradsDeals wants to do its part to solve this problem by organizing and spreading the word about the wealth of teacher discounts that are available but are not properly organized elsewhere. Here are 83 top teacher discounts at bookstores, retail, school supply stores and more!!
7) Warby Parker Eyewear
Warby Parker Eyewear was founded with a rebellious spirit and a lofty objective: to create boutique-quality, classically crafted eyewear at a revolutionary price point. A collaboration between four close friends, Warby Parker was conceived as an alternative to the overpriced and bland eyewear available today. Prescription eyewear simply should not cost $300+. The industry is controlled by a few large companies that have kept prices artificially high, reaping huge profits from consumers who have no other options. By circumventing traditional channels and engaging with customers directly through our website, Warby Parker is able to provide higher-quality, better-looking prescription eyewear at a fraction of the price.
The Bedford Teachers' Association has also negotiated the following benefit for its members:
Enrollment of Children of Non-Resident District Employees (BCSD Board of Education Policy # 5152.2)
It shall be the policy of the Bedford Central School District to permit the children of full-time employees who are not residents of the community to attend the schools of the district, where space is available in an appropriate instructional grouping, acceptance of such children will not result in any significant additional cost to the district, and the Superintendent has determined that such attendance is consistent with the district’s financial circumstances. Such assessments will be made prior to the beginning of each school year, and the decision to admit a student shall be for that school year only. Each employee who lives outside the district shall be responsible for the transportation of his/her child. For each child admitted pursuant to this Policy who was not enrolled in the District’s schools in the 2011-12 school year, the parent shall pay annual fee of $875 per year. This sum may be increased from time to time to adjust for inflation.
