Food Drive
Now that our annual food drive is over, it is time to celebrate our accomplishment. The Bedford Teachers’ Association has been supporting the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry for many years. This year 2488 lbs. of food and $5569 were donated to the food pantry as a result of a planned effort by the entire school district. Kathleen Crohn – BTA Food Drive Coordinator – led the command center by organizing each building. In turn, BTA building coordinators (BVES - Kristin Cacciapaglia and Danielle Decapua-Lazari, BHES - Kevin Grayson, MKES - John Delfavero, PRES - Susanne Cusato and Allison Delesia, WPES - Cait Hall, FLMS - Jennifer Fuenzalida and Malynda Nichol, FLHS - Tony Monchinski, and CO - Mary Lou Cavaliere) organized one and all from students to teachers to support staff to administrators to retirees in this community service. Additionally, the fundraising effort culminated with a staff volleyball tournament (organized by Jean Mazzilli, PRES) well attended by students, parents and colleagues. As a result of our successful effort, the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry will be able to feed local residents including seniors who cannot make ends meet on retirement incomes; the disabled; the working poor; and, of course, children (many of whom attend Bedford Central Schools).
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Food Drive such a huge success!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less than 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36. Breast cancer death rates have been going down. This is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier, and better treatment. Right now there are more than 2½ million breast cancer survivors in the United States. The Bedford Teachers’ Association would like to extend an invitation to all staff members of BCSD as well as their families and friends to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 21, 2012 at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY, beginning at 9:00am. More than just the name of a walk, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer describes the amazing progress we are making together to defeat this disease. Let’s join others to reach the day when no one will have to hear the words: “You have breast cancer.”

Feel the hope, spirit, and camaraderie from survivors and from those who are honoring loved ones. This year let’s make a greater difference.
